A little about John
John Beattie is a well known and established artist in the Riverina area of NSW Australia, with over 30 years experience as a successful artist.
Drawing and the love of fine art has been a factor in John’s life for as long as he can remember. Coupled with the love for the natural environment and all its beauty, it was only a matter of time before he was fascinated with the challenge of trying to portray what was around him in art form.
Based in Wagga Wagga John says “we are surrounded by abundant natural beauty in this area from the Murray River to the Tumut hills and through to the Blue Mountains, there is no shortage of inspiration”.
John is a representational artist with a traditional style and loves the challenge of trying to portray what he sees onto the canvas whether it be landscape, still life, wildlife or figure work.
In the early days John’s formal training was through TAFE, the Mitchell School of Arts, and Lance McNeil Academy of Fine Art. Over the years John has befriended many artists and painted with some of the best in Australia.
Very keen on pleine air painting and all its challenges, John says “I love to paint outdoors, when time and weather permit; there is something spiritual about painting outdoors in the Australian countryside and it is a great way to develop the skills required to paint the landscape”.
John is a popular Fine Art judge with an appreciation for not only representational art but also other contemporary works of fine art including quality abstract.
John’s work has been popular from the early stage of his development and he now has paintings dotted around the world with works in collections in USA, Canada, England, China and throughout Australia.
